From December, the farmers start bringing the first leune to Piazza Tito Schipa. These dried vines will feed the Fòcara, the enormous bonfire in honour of Sant’Antonio Abate, deeply connected to the fire by rites and ancestral traditions,. On the Saint’s day, after blessing the animals, the bonfire, with no equals in the whole Mediterranean area, will be lit (18-20 metres of diameter and 20-22 metres high). The marvellous spectacle from the fire of the fasciddre, the sparks, will last all night. The vine is also the protagonist of the feast of the same name organised by the Negroamaro Park in December.(www.focara.it) |
